Delivering solutions to close soft skills gaps
What’s the Issue?
Studies show that employees, many of whom are recent college graduates, lack the essential skills to perform well in the workplace. This deficiency limits their ability to fully contribute to organizations and it may limit their career advancement.
- Employees: They leave their people skills undeveloped. It’s a mistake to overlook them since soft skills are what employers value. These skills can help you become successful professionally and personally.

- Employer’s Viewpoint: Although technical skills are necessary, they are not enough. Soft skills are what’s needed to put those hard skills to optimum use. You will need to use soft skills to be successful in today’s workforce.

What are Soft Skills?
Soft Skills are:
- A combination of people skills, social skills, communication skills, character or personality traits, attitudes, career attributes,[1] social intelligence and emotional intelligence quotients, among others, that enable people to navigate their environment, work well with others, perform well, and achieve their goals with complementing hard skills. – Wikipedia
- Character traits and interpersonal skills that illustrates a person’s relationships with other people. – Investopedia
- Skills including adaptability, attitude, communication, creative thinking, work ethic, teamwork, networking, decision making, positivity, professionalism, time management, motivation, flexibility, problem-solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution – the balance careers
- Unlike hard skills, which can be proven and measured, soft skills are intangible and difficult to quantify. Some examples of soft skills include analytical thinking, verbal and written communication, and leadership. Soft skills are critical to your success at work. – Monster.com
